Us: The Big Yellow House
<br><br>
The neighbors have been very welcoming to us. They have been very generous in telling us stories about our home, it's previous owners, the town, and other neighbors. I will share those stories here with you along with the renovations to our home.Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00717476804241422374mchamillwedding@gmail.comBlogger33125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2497915387078218605.post-47573612259825105772011-04-11T06:34:00.000-05:002011-04-11T06:34:56.815-05:002011-04-11T06:34:56.815-05:00Building a New Light FixtureI don't seem to like light fixtures I find in stores. They just don't do it for me (well, sometimes, but not usually) So we've taken to making our own like this one in the <a href="http://movingtomayberry.blogspot.com/2010/11/bathroom-is-finally-finished-i-think.html">bathroom.</a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-y6dcJsa6rYc/TaLfw164wdI/AAAAAAAABSw/tFv8YsCmv1Q/s1600/100_9273.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-y6dcJsa6rYc/TaLfw164wdI/AAAAAAAABSw/tFv8YsCmv1Q/s400/100_9273.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>Or the covers in the<a href="http://movingtomayberry.blogspot.com/2010/11/small-projects.html"> laundry room and kitchen</a>.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-L51fo_7_dtk/TaLgtVVSjOI/AAAAAAAABS0/xqwB68FCiR4/s1600/100_9098.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-L51fo_7_dtk/TaLgtVVSjOI/AAAAAAAABS0/xqwB68FCiR4/s400/100_9098.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-R1xVmYmfdAY/TaLg9vRoP2I/AAAAAAAABS4/sLnBZMGefHo/s1600/100_9151.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-R1xVmYmfdAY/TaLg9vRoP2I/AAAAAAAABS4/sLnBZMGefHo/s400/100_9151.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>I have SO hated the light fixture in the kitchen ever since we moved in. It was ugly and didn't provide any light in the kitchen.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0W7KpF4BX7g/TaLigdZvCUI/AAAAAAAABTA/eep-29qB0Gk/s1600/100_0642.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0W7KpF4BX7g/TaLigdZvCUI/AAAAAAAABTA/eep-29qB0Gk/s400/100_0642.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
I've looked and looked for something to replace it with and couldn't find anything. Until one day we were wandering around in the thrift store and found this pot rack.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Wg6eTbDmrVU/TaLhn6E_IwI/AAAAAAAABS8/fsaeACe2e8Y/s1600/100_0644.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Wg6eTbDmrVU/TaLhn6E_IwI/AAAAAAAABS8/fsaeACe2e8Y/s400/100_0644.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>We didn't buy it right away. We actually left and went to <a href="http://www.restorekc.org/portal/page/portal/ReStore">ReStore</a> to look around. I found one of those lights that's glass with brass trim and lights hanging under it, you know, like the ones that hang over pool tables? Well, I hated the brass (of course) but had a vision when I saw the lights under them. So I used my <a href="http://movingtomayberry.blogspot.com/2010/12/and-winner-is.html">gift certificate</a> that I won and bought it and the next day went back to the thrift store and picked up this pot rack for $35. The next stop was to Home Depot for some paint, spray paint! I was so excited about getting it started I didn't get a shot of the brass chandelier in tact, but kinda close. Just picture the light kit under the dome.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hDUoKiUlpqc/TaLkN9F9y8I/AAAAAAAABTE/bYWsephPsYo/s1600/100_0647.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hDUoKiUlpqc/TaLkN9F9y8I/AAAAAAAABTE/bYWsephPsYo/s400/100_0647.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bMaXsHaJWIM/TaLkYRArxOI/AAAAAAAABTI/tw3MRXMaQvQ/s1600/100_0646.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bMaXsHaJWIM/TaLkYRArxOI/AAAAAAAABTI/tw3MRXMaQvQ/s400/100_0646.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>You can see that I already have the working parts covered with foil (so easy to apply and REMOVE) so I can get to painting!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fbrdiwOIq94/TaLk9nVVFlI/AAAAAAAABTM/ffjSopvKYoc/s1600/100_0649.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fbrdiwOIq94/TaLk9nVVFlI/AAAAAAAABTM/ffjSopvKYoc/s400/100_0649.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wqZ35rOBnHA/TaLlE0zF0CI/AAAAAAAABTQ/XsqaB-TEomY/s1600/100_0648.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wqZ35rOBnHA/TaLlE0zF0CI/AAAAAAAABTQ/XsqaB-TEomY/s400/100_0648.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>The paint was such a close match on the pot rack it was hard to tell what was painted and what wasn't! I wish I could tell you the color but I just don't remember right now. But I can tell you it's gorgeous in the kitchen!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NVg2TilEWrU/TaLl8q3zgsI/AAAAAAAABTU/OZekP-eJ6_o/s1600/100_0750.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NVg2TilEWrU/TaLl8q3zgsI/AAAAAAAABTU/OZekP-eJ6_o/s400/100_0750.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />

Honestly, I have no idea. If I want something, I just get it. I've thought and thought about it and can only come up with new slippers. "That's it?" Yeah, that's it.</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br />
</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Until now. After a lot of thought, I think I want new furniture for the sun room. "Well, that's house stuff, that's not personal" Who cares? It's what I want. Could I have it even though it wasn't my birthday? Well....sure, but that's not the point. The furniture I have in here was free, that's right F.R.E.E. and it still amazes me at what people get rid of!</span></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-DA8LY2jClJw/TW-at8GtVEI/AAAAAAAABQ0/ggb59vWjTlU/s1600/100_0506.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="302" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-DA8LY2jClJw/TW-at8GtVEI/AAAAAAAABQ0/ggb59vWjTlU/s400/100_0506.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-pSgPddPcWSU/TW-auUaQzpI/AAAAAAAABQ4/5hdav-zQzD0/s1600/100_0504.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="302" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-pSgPddPcWSU/TW-auUaQzpI/AAAAAAAABQ4/5hdav-zQzD0/s400/100_0504.jpg" width="400" /> </a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <span style="font-size: large;">This is how the sun room is now after I painted the horrible blue floor I complained about <a href="http://movingtomayberry.blogspot.com/2011/02/little-advice.html">here</a>. Isn't it wonderful? I didn't think I would ever get to the color of red I wanted. I didn't want the ready mixed tile or brick red that was out there. I wanted MY red. The red I love so much in my kitchen. The red I love so much in my hutch. MY red. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">I was told over and over "We can't make that" But after calling <a href="http://www.valsparpaint.com/en/index.html">Valspar</a>, I learned oh yes they can! I so LOVE Valspar paint, so I called them and they called my local Lowes (which I hate) but is the nearest place to me that carries their brand and spoke to the manager and told them how to mix it for me. This was after 3 visits with Lowes telling me NO WAY. I love Valspar even more now!</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-24hjQaBHusc/TW-b8xQzk0I/AAAAAAAABQ8/yy2mkGPqmrE/s1600/100_0509.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-24hjQaBHusc/TW-b8xQzk0I/AAAAAAAABQ8/yy2mkGPqmrE/s400/100_0509.jpg" width="302" /></a></div><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">I love the wicker furniture in there, but I think I could love something else as well. A chair perhaps to curl up in and read a good book. A chair like this maybe?</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/--o0QZIeetCk/TW-dIsHkR_I/AAAAAAAABRE/wemhH-qdFKQ/s1600/190721_186868691348262_143519749016490_423940_5152417_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/--o0QZIeetCk/TW-dIsHkR_I/AAAAAAAABRE/wemhH-qdFKQ/s400/190721_186868691348262_143519749016490_423940_5152417_n.jpg" width="300" /> </a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">This chair just happens to be at a sale that starts on my birthday at <a href="http://www.urbanmininghomewares.com/">Urban Mining Homewares</a>. Is it coincidence? I think not. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">The next room on the list is the entry hall. I can't decide where to start. Wall color? Floor color?</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

The brown room, the mustard room, the ketchup room and so forth. Right now I'd like to talk about the blue room aka the sun room. The ceiling and floor were all blue when we moved in. It was actually the first room I painted and I painted the walls and ceiling white.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-y_t405LrMpI/TWZSflOAGzI/AAAAAAAABPI/dQKxBdrmF5M/s1600/100_8489.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-y_t405LrMpI/TWZSflOAGzI/AAAAAAAABPI/dQKxBdrmF5M/s320/100_8489.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
That just left a blue floor. Undecided at this point what to do with it (refinish, replace or paint) I just left it as is.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZUAvX4z8lgM/TWZS80lfwbI/AAAAAAAABPM/O2ePZM1TGuY/s1600/100_8329.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZUAvX4z8lgM/TWZS80lfwbI/AAAAAAAABPM/O2ePZM1TGuY/s320/100_8329.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
It was the first room to have anything in it. I've wanted a sun room forEVER and I was excited!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0QkC7iaFdOM/TWZTZ3qtxAI/AAAAAAAABPQ/tp-FZ3OIIQM/s1600/100_8567.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0QkC7iaFdOM/TWZTZ3qtxAI/AAAAAAAABPQ/tp-FZ3OIIQM/s400/100_8567.JPG" width="400" /> </a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I loved the red in there, but it was a little more formal than I was going for in there, so I hung up some white sheer curtains. So much better, except for that blue floor!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OD9ijRGmdjc/TWZUCFSWlaI/AAAAAAAABPU/Hm4UwEm6A-M/s1600/100_8637.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OD9ijRGmdjc/TWZUCFSWlaI/AAAAAAAABPU/Hm4UwEm6A-M/s400/100_8637.JPG" width="400" /> </a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I still wanted red, so I got some new cushions for the furniture.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aUI-uXgJHl4/TWZWkYRRwMI/AAAAAAAABPc/5YPp1clpoug/s1600/100_9085.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aUI-uXgJHl4/TWZWkYRRwMI/AAAAAAAABPc/5YPp1clpoug/s400/100_9085.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-suG96vwjUhQ/TWZWufCDZxI/AAAAAAAABPg/rrcXQCcK4-o/s1600/100_0324.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="336" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-suG96vwjUhQ/TWZWufCDZxI/AAAAAAAABPg/rrcXQCcK4-o/s400/100_0324.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GIPAV8i0zOQ/TWZW08x5tcI/AAAAAAAABPk/QUhMTcSkO1A/s1600/100_0317.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GIPAV8i0zOQ/TWZW08x5tcI/AAAAAAAABPk/QUhMTcSkO1A/s400/100_0317.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Better, but yeah, that floor is still blue. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">So I finally decided to paint the floor..............RED!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-X_29mY7fpmQ/TWZXZaYhPyI/AAAAAAAABPo/N8nt2-Y87H0/s1600/100_0378.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-X_29mY7fpmQ/TWZXZaYhPyI/AAAAAAAABPo/N8nt2-Y87H0/s400/100_0378.JPG" width="400" /> </a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">That was trial red, it's not the final red. That's a long story and another blog in itself. But isn't it fabulous!?</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4FpZDjf5t8Q/TWZiI8yrUII/AAAAAAAABPs/3mxuU8Urxe4/s1600/100_8720.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4FpZDjf5t8Q/TWZiI8yrUII/AAAAAAAABPs/3mxuU8Urxe4/s400/100_8720.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">So the question on the table today is, what to do with the hutch and desk that will go back in there? We went a couple of weekends ago to visit it for the second time. The first experience there was not a pleasant one. It is very unorganized and some booths look like they brought their stuff in with a wheelbarrow and just dumped it and walked off! But this time *sigh*, this time I found loads of goodies although I didn't buy them all (not yet anyway). One of my favorite things I found was a sewing box that now sits on my hutch in the sun room. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8rPKsKFzAAs/TV_ZIF95poI/AAAAAAAABN4/D4VMUhoP41M/s1600/100_0272.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8rPKsKFzAAs/TV_ZIF95poI/AAAAAAAABN4/D4VMUhoP41M/s400/100_0272.jpg" width="268" /></a></div> The lid opens up to hold all the thread<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rpzvoVUXk_c/TV_ZJyvtawI/AAAAAAAABOA/_C_eLGQQ3q0/s1600/100_0270.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="273" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rpzvoVUXk_c/TV_ZJyvtawI/AAAAAAAABOA/_C_eLGQQ3q0/s400/100_0270.jpg" width="400" /></a></div> She is holding a thimble, and those are straight pins in the "flower bed"<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pEjy_WF-dVM/TV_ZKndPz3I/AAAAAAAABOE/yjGpFpoNfaM/s1600/100_0271.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="268" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pEjy_WF-dVM/TV_ZKndPz3I/AAAAAAAABOE/yjGpFpoNfaM/s400/100_0271.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>It has a drawer on each side to hold more what nots and the sidewalk she stands on slides out to reveal a tape measure. Yes, I know I don't sew, but it's too cute not to have!<br />
<br />
I also found two more ugly girls. I don't know why I'm attracted to these things, but since I am I bought them.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Vjss4Ife8W0/TV_aPUvpSWI/AAAAAAAABOI/yZKlO4yIZZ4/s1600/100_0278.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="242" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Vjss4Ife8W0/TV_aPUvpSWI/AAAAAAAABOI/yZKlO4yIZZ4/s320/100_0278.jpg" width="320" /></a></div> That one is new<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IwGj09CwXi8/TV_aQMaQ6fI/AAAAAAAABOM/EEXfQMuEM5k/s1600/100_0274.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IwGj09CwXi8/TV_aQMaQ6fI/AAAAAAAABOM/EEXfQMuEM5k/s320/100_0274.jpg" width="205" /></a></div> And that one is new<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9vDMWsfaVKw/TV_aQimtxOI/AAAAAAAABOQ/XPyI1tdCFas/s1600/100_0275.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9vDMWsfaVKw/TV_aQimtxOI/AAAAAAAABOQ/XPyI1tdCFas/s320/100_0275.jpg" width="210" /></a></div> I used to have 2 of these, but a friend needed one so off it went!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KVMIRjxKq6M/TV_aRAtKT5I/AAAAAAAABOU/qaeYV0vZywY/s1600/100_0277.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KVMIRjxKq6M/TV_aRAtKT5I/AAAAAAAABOU/qaeYV0vZywY/s320/100_0277.jpg" width="242" /></a></div>And this one I've had the longest. Aren't they cute? Errrr, ugly?<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/2497915387078218605-1401973151016568826?l=movingtomayberry.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00717476804241422374mchamillwedding@gmail.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2497915387078218605.post-78030736262592698952011-02-14T07:35:00.001-06:002011-02-14T07:36:23.294-06:002011-02-14T07:36:23.294-06:00Happy Valentine's Day!As you may remember, a little group of <a href="http://movingtomayberry.blogspot.com/2010/12/christmas-carolers.html">Christmas Caroler's</a> stopped by the Big Yellow House over Christmas and sang to me. I was very touched by this. I had no idea they were coming and wasn't prepared at all to offer them any hot cocoa or even a cookie :(<br />
<br />
So instead, I thought why not go visit them today and ask them all to be my valentine? I didn't want to do the usual cookies or cupcakes and I had saved a fabulous baking site called bakerella and went there for ideas. I found some yummy looking <a href="http://www.bakerella.com/red-velvet-cake-balls/">red velvet cake balls</a> there and thought I would make my own valentine version of them. Problem was, I waited to late and NO ONE had any red velvet cake mixes left! Oh well, strawberry is a valentine color so I just bought that! hmph<br />
<br />
I had envisioned little red hearts on the sticks, but quickly nixed that idea and moved onto cute little kid boxed valentines, but wouldn't you know it? They were out of those too! So I found these adorable little hearts (25 for $1 at the <a href="http://www.dollartree.com/home.jsp">Dollar Tree</a>) and used those instead. I'm very happy with the way they turned out! Don't they look yummy?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-puhHOzOfjrM/TVkvPo89mRI/AAAAAAAABNs/_ZiDWam-VGk/s1600/100_0302.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-puhHOzOfjrM/TVkvPo89mRI/AAAAAAAABNs/_ZiDWam-VGk/s320/100_0302.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />

Her mom had already got her some spongebob ones for school. But I saw the Cutest little DIY cards and HAD to make just a few. I was reading someone's blog (don't remember whose) But I do know it led me over to <a href="http://24-7-365.blogspot.com/2009/02/lavish-me-with-praise.html">24-7-365</a> who made them. <br />
<br />
Since we weren't REALLY making them, we didn't do to much to prepare, just wanted to see if I could, yanno? So I took the picture....<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5vjAfNVpm68/TVfGus8tvUI/AAAAAAAABNU/JgljhXDYTtM/s1600/100_0295.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5vjAfNVpm68/TVfGus8tvUI/AAAAAAAABNU/JgljhXDYTtM/s320/100_0295.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Headed over to <a href="http://www.picnik.com/">Picnik</a> and added some cutesy.......<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-H6Mu5OiAt_o/TVfG_m6nZyI/AAAAAAAABNY/RZG5JC01pfk/s1600/vdaycardk.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-H6Mu5OiAt_o/TVfG_m6nZyI/AAAAAAAABNY/RZG5JC01pfk/s320/vdaycardk.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>Sent it over to Wal Mart for printing, bought some dum dums while I was there, came home, cut a slit in the top of the hand and another in the bottom, and inserted the sucker.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XfHYU7iTUWo/TVfHO_JK2fI/AAAAAAAABNc/DlCP_D0zDLY/s1600/100_0297.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XfHYU7iTUWo/TVfHO_JK2fI/AAAAAAAABNc/DlCP_D0zDLY/s320/100_0297.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Doesn't it look great? People who have seen it have to do that double take thing because it looks like she is really jumping out of that picture and handing you a sucker!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I love this idea. Someone else who reads another social network I'm on thought he might try it with himself and instead of a sucker.......use a bud. How sweet is that?<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/2497915387078218605-7696763092770635805?l=movingtomayberry.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00717476804241422374mchamillwedding@gmail.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2497915387078218605.post-40463657877327868992011-02-12T07:50:00.001-06:002011-02-13T07:22:16.622-06:002011-02-13T07:22:16.622-06:00All Because of Valentine's DayI had a few snow things I left out after Christmas to decorate the mantle and house with. But since Valentine's Day was nearing, I thought I would put those away and put up something "lovey". I started with my side table, I found several things and added a couple of new things and was "ok" with how it looked.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JfW7UyjsJn0/TVaNX7zkaJI/AAAAAAAABMU/W1DxT3D2v5A/s1600/100_0283.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="215" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JfW7UyjsJn0/TVaNX7zkaJI/AAAAAAAABMU/W1DxT3D2v5A/s320/100_0283.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
New ribbons on the candles.........<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-05CQJ1G3V68/TVaNhcWxCBI/AAAAAAAABMY/G2s01EgiIHQ/s1600/100_0288.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-05CQJ1G3V68/TVaNhcWxCBI/AAAAAAAABMY/G2s01EgiIHQ/s320/100_0288.jpg" width="215" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Kisses in the champagne glasses.......<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-z0y4GGT31Gc/TVaNo8cWiUI/AAAAAAAABMc/6qh-Wo0BdZY/s1600/100_0285.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="215" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-z0y4GGT31Gc/TVaNo8cWiUI/AAAAAAAABMc/6qh-Wo0BdZY/s320/100_0285.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Red bottles that I've been collecting.........<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1-1FIRj-LW8/TVaNx8vIOWI/AAAAAAAABMg/z4emwU6P1eg/s1600/100_0287.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="215" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1-1FIRj-LW8/TVaNx8vIOWI/AAAAAAAABMg/z4emwU6P1eg/s320/100_0287.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
And some rose soap petals wrapped in red fuzzy goodness.......<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5lRfIJ_T8Fk/TVaN6ROUcyI/AAAAAAAABMk/Q_fP4swpHiY/s1600/100_0284.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="272" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5lRfIJ_T8Fk/TVaN6ROUcyI/AAAAAAAABMk/Q_fP4swpHiY/s320/100_0284.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Then I moved onto the mantle. I put things on it, moved them around, took them off, put more things on it, moved them, and repeat over and over till frustrated. I gave up on valentines on the mantle and decided to do something else. I had 2 ivy plants that were on top of a hutch in the sun room. They were hard to reach for me to water. Since I needed height on the mantle, I decided to use those and like how it turned out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-oR-25SFJxFo/TVaOafCP22I/AAAAAAAABMo/thApVRiN0JA/s1600/100_0281.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-oR-25SFJxFo/TVaOafCP22I/AAAAAAAABMo/thApVRiN0JA/s320/100_0281.jpg" width="313" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
It looks better in person because you can see the glow of the "fire" and it doesn't look as fake as it does in this picture. And yes, that is the weather on TV showing more snow coming *sigh*<br />
<br />
But now, the top of my hutch in the sun room was mostly empty and I had to fix that. So I started taking my birdhouses out of the window sills and from under and on tables and put those on top. I really like how that turned out.<br />

ME purchasing towels was not in my immediate future, but luckily for me, my family reads my blog!<br />

My mommy got the huge bath sheets you see hanging on the his and her hooks and the black and white towels on the bottom shelf (I had the red). My sister-in-law got me (us) the bath towels on the middle shelves along with the black and white washcloths and hand towels (again, I had the red). We only had one thing in mind that we wanted.......a phone. It doesn't have to "really" be old, just as long as it looks that way. We didn't find one, but there are oh so many weekends left to look. What we did find was this fabulous tea kettle. It looks so perfect sitting on the stove with the sunlight streaming in, doesn't it?<br />

Next to it was another bible, and inside it it says <br />

I thought it was a cool old bible so I picked it up. As we wondered around the store over by the frames and pictures, we found a painting and when I checked for an artists name, It said Gertie 1982. I quickly flipped it over to see it was by Gertie Higginbotham. Both the Bible and the painting, now live with us.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://mizzwokie.multiply.com/photos/hi-res/1M/7144"><span class="insertedphoto"></span></a><a href="http://mizzwokie.multiply.com/photos/hi-res/1M/7143"><img border="0" class="alignmiddleb" src="http://multiply.com/mu/mizzwokie/image/eNFe1QPECYdw35IQWVMJaQ/photos/1M/300x300/7143/100-0215.JPG?et=nt2n273cWmWNiV3sSzBvjw&nmid=0" /></a><br />
<br />
The lady that runs the thrift store said they buy out a lot of estates. I checked the obituaries when I got home as well as just googled her name. There is no obituary for her. But I did come up with a Gertrude Higginbotham in Raytown, MO who is 90 years old.<br />
<br />
I'm now thinking she may be in a nursing home and her things were sold? Now I'm left to wonder if family sold it, and if they did, why would they get rid of these personal things. At least the bible anyway. And how would I ever find out?<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/2497915387078218605-4566578873497526165?l=movingtomayberry.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00717476804241422374mchamillwedding@gmail.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2497915387078218605.post-85458356378364096222010-12-23T13:54:00.001-06:002011-02-13T07:22:57.842-06:002011-02-13T07:22:57.842-06:00And the winner is.........Me!<br />
<br />
As you may know, I entered my <a href="http://movingtomayberry.blogspot.com/2010/10/bathroom.html">bathroom remodel</a> in the <a href="http://www.restorekc.org/portal/page/portal/ReStore">Habitat for Humanity</a> photo contest for fall, and I won! I am now the proud owner of a $25 gift certificate good towards anything at ReStore! I can't wait to spend it!<br />
<br />
Since we are going to talk about the bathroom again, I might as well share Christmas in the bathroom with you too, right?<br />

And that's about as Christmasy as it gets in there (this year anyway ;)<br />
<br />
I have another Christmas project entered in another contest so wish me luck!<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/2497915387078218605-8545835637836409622?l=movingtomayberry.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00717476804241422374mchamillwedding@gmail.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2497915387078218605.post-28409736760832396662010-12-21T19:05:00.001-06:002011-02-13T07:23:25.993-06:002011-02-13T07:23:25.993-06:00Christmas Carolers<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TRFOkTBegrI/AAAAAAAABJ8/3hYKSbtY8DY/s1600/100_9721.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="270" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TRFOkTBegrI/AAAAAAAABJ8/3hYKSbtY8DY/s400/100_9721.JPG" width="400" /> </a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

She thinks her house needs to be more Christmasy (she said I spoiled her by dressing up the house like the North Pole at Christmas time). I decided to bring her a nice centerpiece for her table. I saw someone talk about this on her blog. How her friend paid $25 for one and she made it up for less. I can't remember who or her total cost, but I'm determined to find it!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TQBEiyXBnWI/AAAAAAAABJk/AhFKuWEW690/s1600/100_9669.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TQBEiyXBnWI/AAAAAAAABJk/AhFKuWEW690/s320/100_9669.JPG" width="244" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
We went to our favorite thrift store, even with everything in the store being 50% off the people there are always SO nice, and I put this together while we were in the store. The vase was $3.98 (and half off of that). All the Christmas bulbs together were $1.98 (and half off of that). She told me I could have the flowers if I wanted them :) So the total cost? $2.98 (I'm so cheap and thrifty it hurts) After I made it, I got tons of compliments on the way to the front (and a roll of the eyes from the hubby)<br />
<br />
When we left, we noticed another thrift store across the street, wait till you see what we found! I'm so excited about it and wish I had a picture to share now, but it's outside and it's too cold!<br />
<br />
I'm sharing here:<br />

One thing I love that happened on accident, is this bowl. I had taken fall out of the bowl, set a few pine cones in it to get them out of the way, then threw on these snowflakes to make them easier to carry to another spot, and fell in love with what happened.<br />

I've got a lot to do today as well (how can I possibly need more decor?) but I've got a lovely cup of morning motivation<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TP5KPIl-SuI/AAAAAAAABIo/bESkL4T-lek/s1600/100_9611.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="205" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TP5KPIl-SuI/AAAAAAAABIo/bESkL4T-lek/s320/100_9611.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
And besides, with the cat on the computer, who can get on anyway?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TP5KiWTw-fI/AAAAAAAABIs/R-76j3dbS9o/s1600/100_9472.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TP5KiWTw-fI/AAAAAAAABIs/R-76j3dbS9o/s320/100_9472.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/2497915387078218605-8467997680018100461?l=movingtomayberry.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00717476804241422374mchamillwedding@gmail.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2497915387078218605.post-64342351236618491552010-12-01T08:08:00.001-06:002010-12-01T08:10:50.422-06:002010-12-01T08:10:50.422-06:00The basement doors....are in the floors of the sun room and the laundry room and are a P.A.I.N.<br />
<br />
They just lay there, in the way, not doing much unless you need them. They also make it hard to do flooring.<br />
<br />
The one in the laundry room is painted this ugly brown color. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TPZTRuyzrjI/AAAAAAAABHc/aa8RXfQYwSM/s1600/100_9321.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TPZTRuyzrjI/AAAAAAAABHc/aa8RXfQYwSM/s320/100_9321.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
We decided not to strip the floors at this time because there are several other things that need replacing under the floor. But since I needed a floor before hosting Thanksgiving, we (he) laid down the same stuff I used in the <a href="http://movingtomayberry.blogspot.com/2010/09/kitchen-before-and-after-but-still-work.html">kitchen</a>. It's waterproof and seemed like a perfect fit for a laundry room anyway. Btw....most people that come over can't even tell it's not real wood ;) So anyway......... I decided to paint it, but quickly changed my mind when I remembered I had black glaze.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TPZTxYL1CqI/AAAAAAAABHg/AO7EAZHxTD4/s1600/100_9322.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TPZTxYL1CqI/AAAAAAAABHg/AO7EAZHxTD4/s320/100_9322.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>This is after the first coat. You can see all the essential tools to the right of the door. I love the way it turned out besides it being darker than the flooring we put down. I imagine if I painted it a lighter color and then glazed it, I would probably get a better match. It takes up an entire length of wall. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TPZU5vs_B7I/AAAAAAAABHk/zkLuv2C_ZpQ/s1600/100_9348.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TPZU5vs_B7I/AAAAAAAABHk/zkLuv2C_ZpQ/s320/100_9348.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>My whole laundry/utility room looks so much larger now!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TPZVSp2ySyI/AAAAAAAABHo/AJLl6nezDDw/s1600/100_9347.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TPZVSp2ySyI/AAAAAAAABHo/AJLl6nezDDw/s320/100_9347.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
Ummm yeah, ignore the hanging laundry and my slippers drying on the chair.........It still needs some more organization, but I love the way it looks and feels in there now! My mom made me those curtains for the previous house I lived in. I don't have enough toppers, but luckily for me, she took a topper home to make me 2 more. Isn't she the bestest?<br />
<br />
Because of the way this turned out, I'm almost tempted to paint the sunroom floor a light tannish color and glaze them too versus trying to strip them. *sigh* Is that lazy or what?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TPZXVWFsrLI/AAAAAAAABHs/6gAENX9X1ZE/s1600/100_9327.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TPZXVWFsrLI/AAAAAAAABHs/6gAENX9X1ZE/s320/100_9327.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/2497915387078218605-6434235123661849155?l=movingtomayberry.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00717476804241422374mchamillwedding@gmail.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2497915387078218605.post-41856453050744533072010-11-30T08:25:00.002-06:002011-02-13T07:24:42.551-06:002011-02-13T07:24:42.551-06:00Goodbye Fall, Hello Christmas!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TPUI0QUVhnI/AAAAAAAABHM/2FXYUsSr1bc/s1600/100_9293.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TPUI0QUVhnI/AAAAAAAABHM/2FXYUsSr1bc/s320/100_9293.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
This is Freckles, In the middle of one of the trees<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TPUJAxGJpzI/AAAAAAAABHQ/YEN2quE9bHE/s1600/100_9508.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TPUJAxGJpzI/AAAAAAAABHQ/YEN2quE9bHE/s320/100_9508.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
Most of the time she is sleeping under another tree. Here she is with Tom. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TPUQ4SY8Y8I/AAAAAAAABHY/y-JLKg8Euok/s1600/100_9506.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TPUQ4SY8Y8I/AAAAAAAABHY/y-JLKg8Euok/s320/100_9506.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
This is Jerry (his cat) sleeping in some of the garland.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TPUP_ABbDcI/AAAAAAAABHU/65hMLhk0bik/s1600/100_9500.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TPUP_ABbDcI/AAAAAAAABHU/65hMLhk0bik/s320/100_9500.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
At this point, if anyone has any advice (besides glue) to keep ornaments ON the tree and OFF the floor, I'll consider them!<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/2497915387078218605-4185645305074453307?l=movingtomayberry.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00717476804241422374mchamillwedding@gmail.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2497915387078218605.post-81859209343523169632010-11-14T08:29:00.000-06:002010-11-14T08:29:24.359-06:002010-11-14T08:29:24.359-06:00The New Chandy<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TN_qegRNtQI/AAAAAAAABEU/lgZ0gXQ4XHM/s1600/100_9073.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TN_qegRNtQI/AAAAAAAABEU/lgZ0gXQ4XHM/s320/100_9073.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>This is the chandy that was previously in my entry hall. One of the previous owners claimed they bought it from an antique store. And while it is a great light, I thought it was way too small for my entry hall, and one of the lights didn't even work.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TN_rifMutDI/AAAAAAAABEc/sUy7u_UUKi0/s1600/100_9077.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TN_rifMutDI/AAAAAAAABEc/sUy7u_UUKi0/s320/100_9077.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> I can't remember the square footage of my entry hall, but I do remember it is much larger than my kitchen.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TN_q9LDZYtI/AAAAAAAABEY/uypt1ZiKDmY/s1600/100_9067.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TN_q9LDZYtI/AAAAAAAABEY/uypt1ZiKDmY/s320/100_9067.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
This is the one we bought at <a href="http://www.restorekc.org/portal/page/portal/ReStore">ReStore</a> for the bargain price of $25! It is HUGE! And it is also very heavy. I'm so not a fan of gold or brass and had design to paint it. But since I haven't figured out the other colors in there yet (more on that later), it got hung as is for now.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TN_r7VZlVKI/AAAAAAAABEg/x9E1PU4skUg/s1600/100_9192.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TN_r7VZlVKI/AAAAAAAABEg/x9E1PU4skUg/s320/100_9192.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>The old one came down, but since they didn't hang it from a stud (ugh) we (he) had to make a bigger hole since the new one was much heavier.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TN_sMTOzPvI/AAAAAAAABEk/RMngPRnvWzQ/s1600/100_9193.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TN_sMTOzPvI/AAAAAAAABEk/RMngPRnvWzQ/s320/100_9193.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>We had company, they (he) helped. They reinforced it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TN_sqH77pPI/AAAAAAAABEo/GuNA9icZBno/s1600/100_9195.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TN_sqH77pPI/AAAAAAAABEo/GuNA9icZBno/s320/100_9195.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>And then it got hung up and they called us women folk into the entry hall to check it out. They thought it would be funny to hang it "my size" so I could easily change the bulbs. Mr. Company is demonstrating the shortness of it all. HA!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TN_s_V5LCJI/AAAAAAAABEs/sDVWhvrHFL4/s1600/100_9199.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TN_s_V5LCJI/AAAAAAAABEs/sDVWhvrHFL4/s320/100_9199.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>Back to business.........it works! But Oh Em Gee it's bright! You think 40 watt was a bit too much? LOL I can now operate in that room! We still had the business of the new hole in the ceiling though and without a cover around, we needed something quick! Mrs. Company (knowing my love of repurposing AND spray painting) suggested a paper plate! Genius!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TN_tdO7PJfI/AAAAAAAABEw/VcIZqgHbEA4/s1600/100_9200.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TN_tdO7PJfI/AAAAAAAABEw/VcIZqgHbEA4/s320/100_9200.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>I thought about NOT sharing that part, but really, in a pinch? That is genius! No one even knows what it is all hung up there pretty like.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TN_tsH7qSuI/AAAAAAAABE0/SoUUOVbPdXw/s1600/100_9202.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TN_tsH7qSuI/AAAAAAAABE0/SoUUOVbPdXw/s320/100_9202.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
See? And it looks oh so fabulous in there! We are thinking of getting a dimmer switch to tone it down a bit because I'm thinking even the 20 watt bulbs are going to be a bit much if you aren't operating!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TN_uFhK7w5I/AAAAAAAABE4/HGVi1MQ5STg/s1600/100_9076.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TN_uFhK7w5I/AAAAAAAABE4/HGVi1MQ5STg/s320/100_9076.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>Back to the business of color.......See that floor? It's fabric. I guess back in the day some of the more affluent people covered their floors in fabric to prevent drafts. They just painted them, saturate them is the instruction I got from a previous owner that recreated this look. It's currently caramel color.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TN_uluBqjBI/AAAAAAAABE8/gt2Kt_m7Bq8/s1600/100_9075.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TN_uluBqjBI/AAAAAAAABE8/gt2Kt_m7Bq8/s320/100_9075.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>The walls are kind of a sunny yellow color. It is NOT what I wanted but I was frustrated and moved on to another project at this point. You can see what I was wanting <a href="http://movingtomayberry.blogspot.com/2010/08/frustration-sets-in.html">HERE</a>. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TN_wTG4qp8I/AAAAAAAABFA/OVFcOCxK1ks/s1600/100_8567.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TN_wTG4qp8I/AAAAAAAABFA/OVFcOCxK1ks/s320/100_8567.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>My house consist mostly of the colors in this pitcher. The entry hall leads into this sun room whose floor is another problem child of mine. WHY PAINT WOOD FLOORS? *ugh*<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TN_xQPUB0hI/AAAAAAAABFE/IpPtLOMVtv4/s1600/100_9085.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TN_xQPUB0hI/AAAAAAAABFE/IpPtLOMVtv4/s320/100_9085.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>This is actually the way the sun room looks now. But anyway...........if anyone has any advice or suggestions on what to do with these two floors, painting or otherwise, please feel free to chime in!<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/2497915387078218605-8185920934352316963?l=movingtomayberry.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00717476804241422374mchamillwedding@gmail.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2497915387078218605.post-90479865058799904602010-11-12T09:55:00.008-06:002010-11-14T09:22:55.682-06:002010-11-14T09:22:55.682-06:00The bathroom is finally finished (I think)I talked about my bathroom a while back <a href="http://movingtomayberry.blogspot.com/2010/10/bathroom.html">here</a>, and while pleased with the progress, it wasn't all there yet. I knew I needed something to house towels in the bathroom, but due to limited space, I was never sure what that would be. I always carry around my handy dandy list of measurements of nearly EVERYTHING in my house and luckily I had it with me last week.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TNi8VxWosBI/AAAAAAAABCw/BMszt2DVFdw/s1600/100_9229.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TNi8VxWosBI/AAAAAAAABCw/BMszt2DVFdw/s320/100_9229.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>I saw this shelf, actually there were two of them, and it looked like the perfect size. Since he now carries around a tape measure everywhere we go, we measured and it was perfect. I saw it was only $3.98 and it was going home with me. My daughter was with us that day and I knew she needed a shelf for her bedroom. I asked her if she wanted the other one. She kinda sneered her nose so I said "It's $3.98" and her eyes lit up and she says "OH! Well let me look" (Wonder where she gets THAT from?) Yep, that one went home with me too on the condition I paint it for her.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TNi9DMSH28I/AAAAAAAABC4/4c6IzLqDxuM/s1600/100_9225.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TNi9DMSH28I/AAAAAAAABC4/4c6IzLqDxuM/s320/100_9225.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>See? It fits perfectly over there! I painted it the same gloss <a href="http://www.valsparpaint.com/en/explore-colors/color-selector/index.html#1">valspar</a> black as the vanity. I'll show you a close up if you promise not to look at my mismatch of towels.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TNi9PL0rmII/AAAAAAAABC8/Ff37cgn_FNE/s1600/100_9227.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TNi9PL0rmII/AAAAAAAABC8/Ff37cgn_FNE/s320/100_9227.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>Well shoot, the picture is fuzzy. But trust me, it's beautiful! I also picked up a door knocker for the bathroom last week. And with a quick coat of spray paint (black, of course) It is now my hand towel holder. The first picture is right after painting, and the second after we (he) hung it up.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TNi-lL-Y8AI/AAAAAAAABDI/NdJeRBC9cAo/s1600/100_9224.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TNi-lL-Y8AI/AAAAAAAABDI/NdJeRBC9cAo/s320/100_9224.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
The last thing to go in was the light bar. I so hated the light bar that was there. It was too small for the space and didn't match a thing in there.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TN1i58wYaUI/AAAAAAAABD8/r0V4ohGnbsQ/s1600/100_8513.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TN1i58wYaUI/AAAAAAAABD8/r0V4ohGnbsQ/s320/100_8513.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
So we went out and bought a chandelier<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TNi_P_4PetI/AAAAAAAABDQ/Knv0ijCDRcY/s1600/100_9024.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TNi_P_4PetI/AAAAAAAABDQ/Knv0ijCDRcY/s320/100_9024.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>Disassembled it, and used the light parts to build a new and better light bar that fits perfectly in there!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TN1h5mIlDbI/AAAAAAAABD4/iO3NNX08DO4/s1600/100_9274.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TN1h5mIlDbI/AAAAAAAABD4/iO3NNX08DO4/s320/100_9274.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
I love it every time I walk in there now! But does anyone know how to get the cat to stop throwing cotton balls all over the place?<br />

There was a huge tag on the back that said "Does NOT work". Even upon purchasing it, we were warned again that it didn't work, lol. I added a little black glaze, and 2 clock kits later (the first one didn't work *sigh*) It is now a finished project. Well almost........the hands don't stand out so well and I haven't decided on a color for them.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TM6-p4YUklI/AAAAAAAABBI/ZRQu9HKxEWk/s1600/100_9145.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TM6-p4YUklI/AAAAAAAABBI/ZRQu9HKxEWk/s320/100_9145.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>And better late than never, right? There was not an address marker on the house when we bought it. It's not really TOO important since our mail goes to a PO Box and people around here don't use the numbers either. "Where do you live?" "Big Yellow House" "Oh yeah" or "How do I find your house?" " "Look for the big yellow house". But I wanted something for the occasional times that UPS drops off a package here instead of at the post office. I decided to get seasonal with it and finally finished my fall marker yesterday.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TM6_ZHchTHI/AAAAAAAABBM/3v8wOUL9ww0/s1600/100_9144.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TM6_ZHchTHI/AAAAAAAABBM/3v8wOUL9ww0/s320/100_9144.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>The hubby is off work for a broken foot, so we've been getting out of the house here and there (you can only work so much, right?) and visiting thrift stores and such. We found a fabulous egg basket the other day for only $1 and I knew right where it would go.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TM7AFQMgacI/AAAAAAAABBQ/5BchgpgcYak/s1600/100_9127.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TM7AFQMgacI/AAAAAAAABBQ/5BchgpgcYak/s320/100_9127.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TM7AL9lyW0I/AAAAAAAABBU/BlX0hjtFtdk/s1600/100_9098.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TM7AL9lyW0I/AAAAAAAABBU/BlX0hjtFtdk/s320/100_9098.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I love the way it looks up there and better than the bare bulb! I recently changed out the curtain in the window too. I love the light that comes in now, but something is off. I think it's the curtain rod, I'll be looking for something better later.<br />
<br />
I talked about painting a chalkboard on the pantry doors in the kitchen <a href="http://movingtomayberry.blogspot.com/2010/09/kitchen-before-and-after-but-still-work.html">HERE</a>. I finally got that done, found some chalk, but can't find an eraser, hmmm.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TM7DA0QIFNI/AAAAAAAABBY/0Ap_eLtW0Ks/s1600/100_9104.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TM7DA0QIFNI/AAAAAAAABBY/0Ap_eLtW0Ks/s320/100_9104.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>I had seen some outdoor hanging jar lights somewhere........and since I have an abundance of them, I thought I would try it too.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TM7DdKCYQqI/AAAAAAAABBc/nYW3LlIHjEo/s1600/100_9036.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TM7DdKCYQqI/AAAAAAAABBc/nYW3LlIHjEo/s320/100_9036.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
There have been a couple of larger things done I'll get around to talking about someday. But the list of unfinished projects seems to be larger than ever! I so need a system before my house fills up with family for Thanksgiving!<br />
<br />
UPDATE:<br />
<br />
We went to another thrift store yesterday (surprise, surprise) And I found 2 more egg baskets for 75 cents each! I bought them both. I decided I liked the kitchen light so much, I added one in the laundry AFTER it got a nice coat of red on it that is. The other one is hanging on a hook, waiting for duty or repurposing somewhere.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TNFjyP3hCOI/AAAAAAAABB0/IpCUMHN1dc4/s1600/100_9154.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TNFjyP3hCOI/AAAAAAAABB0/IpCUMHN1dc4/s320/100_9154.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TNFj8me7EyI/AAAAAAAABB4/h2u02cEVYJ4/s1600/100_9152.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TNFj8me7EyI/AAAAAAAABB4/h2u02cEVYJ4/s320/100_9152.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />

And I finally got around to taking pictures of it and cleaning it. If you remember, the price on this beauty was FREE. This was after we finally brought it inside. See the yuckiness on the cushions?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TLWxclNqseI/AAAAAAAAA_Y/fVuH6x6KGp8/s1600/100_9012.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TLWxclNqseI/AAAAAAAAA_Y/fVuH6x6KGp8/s320/100_9012.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>Isn't it beautiful though? I've tried to date it but there are no tags or distinguishable markings on it at all. This is after I poured hydrogen peroxide on it to kill whatever that might be on the cushions.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TLWxyZi463I/AAAAAAAAA_c/MPQ_sMbeHxE/s1600/100_9019.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TLWxyZi463I/AAAAAAAAA_c/MPQ_sMbeHxE/s320/100_9019.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>And this was after the cleaning, most of it came out, BUT, it still needs recovered and as you can see it does NOT match my room at all!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TLWyEwGNJMI/AAAAAAAAA_g/Hxg8dDPWN4o/s1600/100_9015.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TLWyEwGNJMI/AAAAAAAAA_g/Hxg8dDPWN4o/s320/100_9015.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TLWyMc0Ve8I/AAAAAAAAA_o/dYCslULkp8w/s1600/100_9014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TLWyMc0Ve8I/AAAAAAAAA_o/dYCslULkp8w/s320/100_9014.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>The thing is.........I've never reupholstered anything before and I'm so afraid of messing it up! I found someone's blog that had a step by step (I'll have to "find" it again) (aha, found it <a href="http://www.allthingsthrifty.com/2009/11/reupholstering-101-how-to-reupholster.html">HERE</a>)and it didn't look TOO horribly hard, but I'm still afraid. I've already picked the fabric (red and it's gorgeous) so that's not the problem. Maybe it's because I don't sew? I suppose it doesn't need much for sewing and I MIGHT have someone that just might maybe help out with the sewing of the cushion covers. The (ugly) chair in the living room needs a lot of sewing done for it though and I just can't bring myself to pay someone $564 (that's the estimate) to do it for me. The chair and ottoman is super comfy though. It's affectionately (or not) known as the poker chair.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TLW15JWBrOI/AAAAAAAABAI/6sZaoH1bwik/s1600/100_9046.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TLW15JWBrOI/AAAAAAAABAI/6sZaoH1bwik/s320/100_9046.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />

<br />

The main bathroom in our home is of course added on after the fact. Older homes traditionally had bathrooms added on in the back of the house. Ours is on the other side of the kitchen (behind the hutch) and currently the only entryway is through a bedroom. I suppose maybe it was meant to be a master bedroom at one point, but it's so SMALL. (That's why I confiscated the parlor for the master) The bathroom is an OK size, but there is room to make it larger, and maybe we will one day, who knows?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TKzpi5HibfI/AAAAAAAAA9g/DvWKBno285Q/s1600/100_8904.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TKzpi5HibfI/AAAAAAAAA9g/DvWKBno285Q/s320/100_8904.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>You can see the clapboard under the sheetrock in the bathroom where we had to move the one outlet to put the new mirror in. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TKzqHRS7lFI/AAAAAAAAA9k/zp7sRZKwmwk/s1600/100_8905.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TKzqHRS7lFI/AAAAAAAAA9k/zp7sRZKwmwk/s320/100_8905.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>He hates electrical (lol) but he got it done like a champ :)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TKzqdLKb_FI/AAAAAAAAA9o/VeJ1gE5GaO8/s1600/100_8513.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TKzqdLKb_FI/AAAAAAAAA9o/VeJ1gE5GaO8/s320/100_8513.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TKzqhtut_xI/AAAAAAAAA9s/YbKvNibFJB0/s1600/100_8500.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TKzqhtut_xI/AAAAAAAAA9s/YbKvNibFJB0/s320/100_8500.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>This is the medicine cabinet that was originally in the bathroom. It will be relocated to the upstairs bathroom which has NO mirror and NO storage whatsoever. And this is the sink/vanity that was in the bathroom. It was the ONLY storage in the bathroom at all. Where did previous owners put anything? This little beauty will be relocated to the mancave.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TKzrRuJkD5I/AAAAAAAAA9w/8k1nJipci5w/s1600/100_8646.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TKzrRuJkD5I/AAAAAAAAA9w/8k1nJipci5w/s320/100_8646.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>We found this larger beauty with LOTS of storage at <a href="http://www.restorekc.org/portal/page/portal/ReStore">ReStore</a> for only $35! And the sink/countertop was only $5. Can you beat a deal like that?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TKzrsv5kDAI/AAAAAAAAA90/2d0lq66k75k/s1600/100_8999.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TKzrsv5kDAI/AAAAAAAAA90/2d0lq66k75k/s320/100_8999.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>This is what that cabinet looks like today with just a little paint. Isn't it beautiful? I knew immediately when I saw the cabinet in the bathroom I wanted a black and white bathroom and I think it turned out great.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TKzsTJXvadI/AAAAAAAAA94/jn2Zuk0DgKw/s1600/100_8739.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TKzsTJXvadI/AAAAAAAAA94/jn2Zuk0DgKw/s320/100_8739.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
Found this at a thrift store for $2, and with a little more paint and a piece of material.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TKzsqVjQTEI/AAAAAAAAA-A/f-S7jp4zBe8/s1600/100_8796.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TKzsqVjQTEI/AAAAAAAAA-A/f-S7jp4zBe8/s320/100_8796.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
I now have this. And the material on this, of course led to covering these<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TKzs5JkakaI/AAAAAAAAA-E/7pp2vC6VvtY/s1600/100_8799.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TKzs5JkakaI/AAAAAAAAA-E/7pp2vC6VvtY/s320/100_8799.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
Which put me on the search for the perfect rug, which I eventually found at Target.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TKztIBDGzhI/AAAAAAAAA-I/SMqVIfrLEfg/s1600/100_8788.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TKztIBDGzhI/AAAAAAAAA-I/SMqVIfrLEfg/s320/100_8788.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
And by adding a black shower curtain liner behind the shower curtain, I think it matches up great!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TKzteP9tZzI/AAAAAAAAA-M/awOdpApNZq0/s1600/100_8789.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TKzteP9tZzI/AAAAAAAAA-M/awOdpApNZq0/s320/100_8789.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Now I just needed some pictures to hang on the walls. I found some fabulous frames at a thrift store for $2 each, painted them, and ended up with these. There are 4 that all say bath in a different language.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TKzt4Vd0adI/AAAAAAAAA-Q/kgm0UdHs4gc/s1600/100_8801.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TKzt4Vd0adI/AAAAAAAAA-Q/kgm0UdHs4gc/s320/100_8801.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Add in my $5 thrift store frame</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TKzuhebLLPI/AAAAAAAAA-Y/cYHVlIeMHjQ/s1600/100_9002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TKzuhebLLPI/AAAAAAAAA-Y/cYHVlIeMHjQ/s320/100_9002.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">And a mirror to fit it from <a href="http://www.restorekc.org/portal/page/portal/ReStore">ReStore</a>, and I have a centerpiece for my new vanity.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TKzuziKUQBI/AAAAAAAAA-c/_E5ea1KsDoM/s1600/100_8989.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TKzuziKUQBI/AAAAAAAAA-c/_E5ea1KsDoM/s320/100_8989.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I now needed a new floor that didn't blend in with the rug, and went with the same flooring that we put in the <a href="http://movingtomayberry.blogspot.com/2010/09/kitchen-before-and-after-but-still-work.html">kitchen</a> so I wouldn't have to worry about water. It's called <a href="http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ContentView?pn=BP_Trafficmaster_Allure&langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=">Allure from Home Depot</a>, and it's fabulous!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TKzvRutG2oI/AAAAAAAAA-g/WFVHbxg8ePw/s1600/100_8999.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TKzvRutG2oI/AAAAAAAAA-g/WFVHbxg8ePw/s320/100_8999.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Painted the baseboard black, added in some 10cent jars I found to hold things in and a few decorations</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TKzvmLMQhXI/AAAAAAAAA-k/HEx3It6qb7g/s1600/100_8993.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TKzvmLMQhXI/AAAAAAAAA-k/HEx3It6qb7g/s320/100_8993.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Yes, even fall decorations. And I'm almost done! We now just need a new light fixture to replace the ugly bar lights we have now. <br />
<br />
Last Friday, we went out shopping at our favorite thrift store and stumbled upon this gem! Isn't she beautiful? And I even got it for the low down super price of $34.96! It was so strange to find this when I had just looked at one like this on craigslist that was selling for $150.00. The stamp on the bottom is kinda hard to read but it was made by <a href="http://books.google.com/books?id=jMrn0Jfwcc0C&pg=PA413&lpg=PA413&dq=barnard+and+cope+furniture&source=bl&ots=UWmic9Qk1h&sig=7qpfdDWYJKv7pLQHUnQnutBrXEA&hl=en&ei=pi2mTOa5I4KfnAfg9YWRAQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=2&ved=0CBYQ6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q=barnard%20and%20cope%20furniture&f=false">Barnard and Cope Furniture</a>. The only thing I could find on them so far is that they were established in 1871. So many possibilities with this, but I was told (ordered) by my Mom not to touch it (ie: paint) until we could date it and appraise it.<br />
<br />
We got a bunch of other goodies there too, as always.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TKxwKxxk8KI/AAAAAAAAA8k/eOszCUeGZfc/s1600/100_8900.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TKxwKxxk8KI/AAAAAAAAA8k/eOszCUeGZfc/s320/100_8900.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
I've been searching for a mirror like that for a while now for my water closet at a decent price, and this one was more than decent, only $2.98!<br />
<br />
As we were leaving, I saw someone donating a love seat that I wanted super bad, and if the manager wasn't out there, I would have asked for it. It looks something like this, but smaller.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TKxxamBzsFI/AAAAAAAAA8o/d80K8PC98Tk/s1600/p05.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="232" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TKxxamBzsFI/AAAAAAAAA8o/d80K8PC98Tk/s320/p05.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
It's even greenish in color like that (although that will have to change). We went back to that thrift store on Monday and it was nowhere in sight *sigh*. But as fate would have it, we walked outside and around back to hit up the dollar tree while we were there, and there it was! It had a stain on the cushion so they were throwing it away *gasp*. So I ended up getting it for FREE (my favorite price) It's now home with me :)<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/2497915387078218605-3539401299070416285?l=movingtomayberry.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00717476804241422374mchamillwedding@gmail.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2497915387078218605.post-4309025458232019192010-09-25T08:43:00.001-05:002010-11-13T12:48:50.751-06:002010-11-13T12:48:50.751-06:00For the Love of HutchesI really adore the look of a painted hutch, there's just something about them that make my heart skip a beat. It took me a LONG time to paint the hutch I already owned, but when I finally did, I think it turned out beautiful as you can see <a href="http://movingtomayberry.blogspot.com/2010/08/great-hutch-debate.html">here</a>. When I was searching for hutches to solve the storage problems in my house, I had every intention of painting them. The first hutch I found (on craigslist) was this one.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJ33HsNfvII/AAAAAAAAA5g/84KSLr1LQQY/s1600/100_8807.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJ33HsNfvII/AAAAAAAAA5g/84KSLr1LQQY/s320/100_8807.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>This hutch houses my Wizard of Oz Collection (well, most of it) and someday I'll get around to painting it a color that will help represent that. (whatever that may be) I then went out to search for an open hutch for the sunroom, well actually two, but one that I could paint yellow, bright cheery yellow. The next hutch I found (on craigslist) was this one.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJ33LxSu0nI/AAAAAAAAA5k/9XbXAwJG-y4/s1600/100_8804.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJ33LxSu0nI/AAAAAAAAA5k/9XbXAwJG-y4/s320/100_8804.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>It was larger than the one I had pictured in my mind to paint yellow but I thought it would get a color too. The following day, we went to another part of town to pick up another hutch from someone else on craigslist.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJ33QK5LeAI/AAAAAAAAA5o/hF01Nit1CtE/s1600/100_8805.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJ33QK5LeAI/AAAAAAAAA5o/hF01Nit1CtE/s320/100_8805.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>It was the perfect size for what I had in mind, but NOW the thing is...........Besides the knobs, it matches the Other one EXACTLY, just smaller. Now What? Do I really want two yellow hutches in the sunroom? At this point I'm thinking no. The colors in my home are reds, yellows, whites and blacks. I recently found some cushions for my wicker furniture that matched this scheme.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJ35eAu0XPI/AAAAAAAAA5w/vvPLnEConUA/s1600/100_8783.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJ35eAu0XPI/AAAAAAAAA5w/vvPLnEConUA/s320/100_8783.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>All except for the rocker which still holds the pinks and blues from my previous house when I used it on my large porch.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJ35Yv9r4DI/AAAAAAAAA5s/H4F5teQRm2Q/s1600/100_8777.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJ35Yv9r4DI/AAAAAAAAA5s/H4F5teQRm2Q/s320/100_8777.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>And as you can see, the floor in this room is still blue (from previous owners who painted the hardwood floors, UGH) and that might be throwing me off some. Hmm, wonder if I should just refinish the floors before deciding on hutch colors?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJ38FK7SZiI/AAAAAAAAA6E/Z80Iv4HgycU/s1600/100_8810.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJ38FK7SZiI/AAAAAAAAA6E/Z80Iv4HgycU/s320/100_8810.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>Oh, and did I mention my naked desk is also in this room?<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/2497915387078218605-430902545823201919?l=movingtomayberry.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00717476804241422374mchamillwedding@gmail.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2497915387078218605.post-4519340292774590942010-09-23T08:30:00.004-05:002011-03-11T09:20:46.095-06:002011-03-11T09:20:46.095-06:00The Kitchen: Before and After (but still a work in progress)<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJtNuAI1aiI/AAAAAAAAA3I/4kpoCijsS0s/s1600/100_8315.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJtNuAI1aiI/AAAAAAAAA3I/4kpoCijsS0s/s200/100_8315.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>This is how the kitchen looked when we first toured the house. It looked and felt like there had been water damage to the floors which crept up some walls and cabinets. The stove/oven was a HORRIBLE thing! If you turned it on, it smelled like hot dogs boiling, eww.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJtOO6E7RyI/AAAAAAAAA3Q/MCIsVCH45DI/s1600/100_8393.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJtOO6E7RyI/AAAAAAAAA3Q/MCIsVCH45DI/s200/100_8393.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>So we started ripping up the floors. Someone had put down layer upon layer of floor glue for the linoleum on the floor. And we found that someone had also replaced about 1/2 of the floor with new sub-floor.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJtOmZh9xWI/AAAAAAAAA3Y/ioicHRqShdE/s1600/100_8436.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJtOmZh9xWI/AAAAAAAAA3Y/ioicHRqShdE/s200/100_8436.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>We found out after getting to the actual floor, that we also needed to replace the joists as well.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJtO_-vBxNI/AAAAAAAAA3g/v48UU8rOVwM/s1600/100_8493.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJtO_-vBxNI/AAAAAAAAA3g/v48UU8rOVwM/s200/100_8493.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>I am so not a fan of brown or tan anything, so I set off to paint the cabinets white. And since the walls were two different colors anyway, I knew I wanted to paint the cabinet sides of the walls red, not just any red, but MY red. MY red is from <a href="http://www.valsparpaint.com/en/index.html?source=p&mcode=Search_Google">Valspar</a> and it's called La Fonda Geranium Red (1010-4), isn't it beautiful? I had already had things in my house that resembled french country and part was shabby chic. So I'm now thinking that I just have a french chic house :)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJtPrXQUysI/AAAAAAAAA3o/CeZuckpQGys/s1600/100_8517.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJtPrXQUysI/AAAAAAAAA3o/CeZuckpQGys/s200/100_8517.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>Sub-floor is going in nicely. And it's getting so close to move in time!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJtP9qkF9fI/AAAAAAAAA3w/o3I-w85qYhc/s1600/100_8591.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJtP9qkF9fI/AAAAAAAAA3w/o3I-w85qYhc/s200/100_8591.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>Cabinet doors are back on! I started glazing one of the doors (to the right) but haven't decided if that's the route I'm taking or not. I've left the paint distressed anyway.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJtQddUoLlI/AAAAAAAAA34/kCLZkb6C6-k/s1600/100_8649.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJtQddUoLlI/AAAAAAAAA34/kCLZkb6C6-k/s200/100_8649.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>We couldn't decide on what kind of countertop we wanted, there are so many choices! So for now, we have used the new rustoleum product in black that I was thinking about <a href="http://movingtomayberry.blogspot.com/2010/08/to-paint-or-not-to-paint.html">HERE</a>. Looks pretty good, doesn't it?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJtQ8XgpCuI/AAAAAAAAA4A/-_DbEikZgns/s1600/100_8651.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJtQ8XgpCuI/AAAAAAAAA4A/-_DbEikZgns/s200/100_8651.JPG" width="200" /></a></div><br />
The flooring has arrived! We wanted hardwood flooring, but living in a flood zone and with the previous water damage we found, we were nervous. So the compromise was this <a href="http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ContentView?pn=BP_Trafficmaster_Allure&langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=">Allure</a> flooring we bought at the advice of Home Depot and it turned out beautiful and guests don't even know it's not real wood.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJtRuL4_CtI/AAAAAAAAA4I/tDNijN6Tybs/s1600/100_8655.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJtRuL4_CtI/AAAAAAAAA4I/tDNijN6Tybs/s200/100_8655.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>The appliances we bought at <a href="http://www.sears.com/shc/s/v_10153_12605_Appliances">Sears</a> have also arrived! Isn't that range beautiful? The space for the fridge before would have given me a teeny tiny apartment size fridge, so we moved some cabinets around for more space. And then once it arrived, we had to remove the door AND frame to get it in, but it was SO worth it!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJtSNLxG1AI/AAAAAAAAA4Q/jnXtX3ayH5s/s1600/100_8660.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJtSNLxG1AI/AAAAAAAAA4Q/jnXtX3ayH5s/s200/100_8660.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>The lazy susan is broken in one spot and I haven't really decided what to do with the area yet besides spending a small fortune buying a new one. I've been to <a href="http://www.habitat.org/env/restores.aspx?tgs=OS8yMy8yMDEwIDk6MTM6NTIgQU0%3d">ReStore</a> several times in search of a replacement, but haven't found one yet.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJtSxxVDPzI/AAAAAAAAA4Y/hbb0lyhQn3U/s1600/100_8667.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJtSxxVDPzI/AAAAAAAAA4Y/hbb0lyhQn3U/s200/100_8667.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>I painted the remaining walls a sunny yellow color. I'm not THAT happy with it, but it's ok for now ;) I got the china hutch all moved in and filled it up, although, it needs arranging still. I also moved in my <a href="http://mizzwokie.multiply.com/photos/album/181/Sunday_Stuff">ladderback chairs </a>that my hubby reweaved for me and I am getting very excited about it all now. The baseboard is larger than what we found when we moved in too. We bought this baseboard at ReStore as well, but historically, it needs more molding on top and bottom of it, so it's still a work in progress too.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJtUpIXeqJI/AAAAAAAAA4g/ol4PGuD8jeE/s1600/100_8704.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJtUpIXeqJI/AAAAAAAAA4g/ol4PGuD8jeE/s200/100_8704.JPG" width="200" /></a></div><br />
Got the small kitchen table moved in......<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJtU5RTu1II/AAAAAAAAA4o/msDwLVq9AvM/s1600/100_8742.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJtU5RTu1II/AAAAAAAAA4o/msDwLVq9AvM/s200/100_8742.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>Finally got out and bought a microwave (oh how I missed it so).....<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJti0OxuOHI/AAAAAAAAA5A/t0j_hc85Zs0/s1600/100_8703.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJti0OxuOHI/AAAAAAAAA5A/t0j_hc85Zs0/s200/100_8703.JPG" width="200" /></a></div> Still waiting on the dishwasher to come out of layaway......<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJtVN5nfiDI/AAAAAAAAA4w/IBgsSJoHAeI/s1600/100_8743.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_njvyiQgAz5s/TJtVN5nfiDI/AAAAAAAAA4w/IBgsSJoHAeI/s200/100_8743.JPG" width="150" /></a></div>Threw down some rugs, hung up some magnets, and called it good for now. Of course you can see I still need the trim around the doors (as well as the remaining baseboard molding) but we haven't found exactly what we're looking for yet. And I'm thinking about turning my pantry doors into chalkboards because they look so fun <a href="http://beautifulnest.blogspot.com/2010/09/chalkboard-pantry-doors.html">HERE</a>. But the point is, it's livable now, and that makes me happy.<br />
<br />
So to recap: Before...<br />
